Why All Pregnant Women Should See a Chiropractor

The nine months of pregnancy are a wonderful time in a woman's life. All the changes, the expectations, and anticipations make for a beautiful life experience. At the same time, a woman's body will go through many changes that are sometimes difficult to manage.

First, women will begin carrying more weight on their frames than they are used to (and usually more than they ever have). Because of this, it is crucial that a woman's spine be as strong and as supple as possible. Also, any minor issues experienced before the pregnancy (i.e. aches and pains) may become magnified as the pregnancy progresses.

Other changes of note include hormonal fluctuation and the position of the baby (sometimes putting pressure on the sciatic nerve, for example). These, as well, will respond well to chiropractic care,

There is a wealth of information on the importance of chiropractic care for prenant women and also for children on the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association's website (www.icpa4kids.org). One study, for example, reports that 84% of prenant women with low back pain showed an improvement with chiropractic care. Other studies attribute chiropractic care for a greater ease of delivery. It is important that all pregnant women read the information on the ICPA website so that they may be as informed as possible.

It is always important to take care of yourself but it is much more important during your pregnancy. It may be a time of changes and challenges but with regular chiropractic care, you'll enjoy every minute of it.

What is Wellness Chiropractic?

If you had to choose between losing your teeth or your spine, which would you choose? This seems like a simple question. You can live without your teeth but you would be in pretty lousy shape without a spine...at least for the few seconds you were still living. My question, then, is why do we make sure to have our teeth checked every six months but neglect to do the same for our spines?

Dentists have done a wonderful job over the years of informing the public of the benefits of regular dental checkups and I think most people understand that they should see a dentist on a regular basis, even if there's nothing "wrong". Perhaps chiropractors have dropped the ball when it comes to explaining wellness care, but its benefits are undeniable.

Nearly every major issue I see in the office is a result of a process that has been building up slowly over time. In other words, big things do not usually just happen to your body. Many small things happen over time and left unchecked can lead to big things. The catch is that we do not always feel the small things when they happen. Regular chiropractic adjustments will help your body to resolve any small issues before they become big (and debilitating) and will strengthen your body so it is better able to deal with our daily stresses.

Your spine is your lifeline. It deserves your attention. Take care of it and it will take care of you.
